The big ONE!

Before I get started on Eliza's first birthday, I would like to announce that the day before her birthday she began to stand, unassisted! She isn't walking yet, but we are TOTALLY okay with that. :)

Eliza's birthday was a really fun day! Chris worked a half day so that he could get some good quality time with Ellie. Eliza lives and breathes for her dad. She just loves him (I can totally see why, he's a pretty awesome person :). She was so excited to see him walk through the door in the middle of the day!

Birthday morning breakfast: Whole wheat blueberry waffles, blueberries, and milk.

Around 10 a.m. we heard a knock on the door! We opened it to see Aunt Suzi with a gift for the birthday girl! Hooray!!! Eliza liked the tissue paper and the super fun books inside!

Birthday girl with Mommy! Uncle Rodger and Aunt Kelly got that crown for Ellie when she was born. I love that they were thinking ahead to her first birthday! Ellie LOVED wearing her crown (uh-oh;).

Birthday girl with Daddy!

After Daddy got home, we headed to the mall (it was a yucky, windy day in Las Cruces so we had to nix the park). First we hit the toy train set at Barnes and Noble.

Eliza really enjoyed playing trains with Daddy.

Then we hit up the next best thing at the Mesilla Valley mall...the carousel. Not super impressive, but Eliza had fun!

She really liked the steering wheel.

Then she decided that she had enough of the carousel, and made a "B" line for JC Penny's. A girl after my own heart. :)

Eliza had her first taste of "junk" food for her birthday dinner! We got Chick-fil-a! Yum. She wasn't all that into the french fries, which was unfathomable to me, but she LOVED the chicken nuggets.

A young lady from our church came by earlier that day to bring Eliza a birthday cheese cake, yes, a birthday CHEESE CAKE. Is there any better tasty treat? I think not. It was the best cheese cake I have ever had. Thanks, Sofie!!

Daddy helping Ellie blow out the candle. Eliza kind of looks a little weary of what's going on in this picture, or maybe she is making sure dad doesn't steal a bite before she gets one.

Eliza wasn't all that into the cheese cake, but she really liked the chocolate chips that decorated the cheese cake and was perfectly happy to pound them down. More cheese cake for mom and dad! Oh darn.

Pure chocolate chip ecstasy.

Happy birthday, Eliza! You are our favorite little girl in the world and we just really like you!

Walking with a walker

Month 12, oh my!

Here are the highlights of Eliza's 12th month!

There is at least one Valentine's Day where a girl finds herself crying. Apparently Eliza decided not to waist time. But look at that outfit!

Snagging the blanket from between the rungs of her crib is pretty common these days. It is so adorable to me. Just one more precious moment with her blank. :)

Eliza LOVES books. However, not in the way you would think. She has no patience to wait for mom and dad to finish reading a page and therefor a book. She just wants to look at the pictures and flip thought the pages in no particular order. At first I resisted and tried to read an entire book to her, which just ended in tears. Now I just let her do her thing. I figure she will have plenty of time to figure out how to actually use a book.

We got a new couch!!!!! This has been a LONG time coming. Our couches were totally old, disgusting and uncomfortable. Chris finally broke down and bought me a new couch after I had to start to see a chiropractor for horrible hip pain. Having a good and firm couch has really helped with the hip pain and Eliza LOVES to climb all over it!

Look at that skill! I just love this girl!

Month 11

I'm pretty sure that Eliza hitting 11 months was the the most shocking of the month "birthday" celebrations. Really? Where did the year go? Will it all go this fast? Will I really have a one year old in one month? Ahhhhhhh!

Eliza loves the remote. This is the look she gives me when she manages to snag it. The funny thing about Eliza, is that when she is about to do something that she knows she is not supposed to do, she looks at me and shakes her head "No" and awaits my confirmation "Yes, you're right. You are not allowed to do that." Then she either does it anyway or goes and does something else. HA!

Eliza really is an introvert. She loves spending time alone in her room and needs to recharge if she has been around anyone other than mommy and daddy for longer than a few hours. Here is one of the many times she has retreated into her room to play by herself.

Eliza loves her crib. She will hang out in her crib long after she wakes up in the morning. Maybe it's because she is not allowed to have her blankie outside the crib and she wants to savor every moment?

Swinging.

"Now what is this supposed to do?" Eliza

Precious girl.

Month 10

December was super fun! We did a little baking, Christmas shopping, playing, CRAWLING, popping out teeth, pulling up and standing, climbing up stairs (yikes!), falling in love with animals, opening presents, and loving on Gigi, Auntie Anna, and Uncle Javan. It was a good month!

Our kitchen is shaped like a "U" so we have two corners. These corners are pretty great for letting little girls watch mixers mix. On this particular occasion, Eliza was watching Mom make cookie dough. Isn't she sweet?

Look at those teeth! FOUR!
The Albany Sheehan's got this ADORABLE dachshund stuffed animal for Eliza. This has since become her favorite stuffed animal, mostly because she LOVES dogs, I mean, LOVES dogs.

See? She loves dogs. We went to Uncle Javan and Auntie Anna's for Christmas. Anna and Javan have two dogs and two cats and Eliza was in heaven with all the animals. I have informed Chris that this means that Eliza needs her own dog. He agrees. :)

We really enjoyed the infant car seat because it was easier to see Eliza when we looked back. This is usually what we saw when we looked back. People say texting and driving is dangerous, this adorable smile could cause some major vehicular danger.

On Christmas Eve we went to see Auntie Anna sing at her Church. Okay, brag time, my sister has quite an astonishing voice. It's beautiful. I'm so proud of her for using her extraordinary talent to serve the Lord. Eliza loved seeing Anna sing. Anna and Eliza are very similar because they both love animals and they both sing. Eliza has a very distinct singing voice and talking voice. She sings about half of any given day. I love that she is like Auntie Anna.

They love each other.

Family Christmas Picture.

What our family actually looks like in "real" life. :) I'm in love!

Christmas morning brought a slew of gifts for Eliza. She was pretty funny opening the gifts and didn't really like the whole unwrapping experience, but as soon as she realized that there were super fun things INSIDE the packages, she was all about it!

Aunt Anna and Uncle Javan got Ellie her very own dog...

and a phone!

You can't go to Arizona without a trip to In and Out Burger. Eliza is tasting her first french fry here. She liked it.

Aunt Sarah got Eliza this hat for Christmas, isn't that cute?

One morning, I heard Eliza yelling for me, sounding a lot like this "Ah, Ah, Ah, Ma!" When I came into her room I saw that she had crawled under her crib and couldn't figure out how to get our from under it. It was pretty funny.

Look! I can Stand!
